Charlotte-Mecklenburg Branch NAACP Announces its Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Branch NAACP will host its annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 6-9pm at the Villages of Hope Haven Conference Center using the theme, “United to Uplift.”

Individuals who give time and energy to advocate for others in the community will be recognized and honored. The honorees give limitless support and commitment to critical issues that matter in the city of Charlotte. Honorees will be recognized for their volunteerism, leadership, civic service, and activism. The NAACP applauds the honorees of the 2018 Freedom Fund Awards Banquet for their strength of character and courage shown during extraordinary adversity and sacrifice.

Community Champions being honored are: Brian Kasher, Jorge Millares - Queen City Unity, and Kristie Williams - ACLU of North Carolina; the Excellence in Leadership award goes to Spencer B. Merriweather, III - Mecklenburg County District Attorney, and the President’s Award goes to Rev. Dr. Peter M. Wherry, Pastor of Mayfield Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

The evening includes an auction of artwork from local artists.

The NAACP Charlotte-Mecklenburg Branch is organized and operated by dedicated and committed volunteers, and individual’s financial support which enables the Branch to continue serving the community through advocacy programs in education, housing, labor, environmental, criminal justice, health and political action.
