SALISBURY, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team hammered rival Livingstone 19-0 in game one and 20-0 in game two to earn a doubleheader sweep over the Blue Bears at Jaycee Park in Salisbury, N.C.
Game one saw the Golden Bulls score in each of the first four innings, including a seven-run second inning and an eight-run third inning.
JCSU pitcher Tasia Bolling (Leland, N.C.) earned the win in both games to improve her record to 6-9 on the season. She allowed just one hit in game one and struck out nine Blue Bear batters. In game two, she allowed two hits while striking out seven. On the afternoon, she did not issue a walk.
Offensively, senior Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) had five hits on the afternoon, going 3-of-4 in game one with a double and three RBI. In game two, she went, 2-for-4 with four RBI and hit another double, her 10th of the season. All told, the JCSU bats pounded Livingstone pitching, racking up 30 hits on the afternoon with six doubles and one triple.
With the wins, JCSU improves to 15-14 on the season and 10-6 in CIAA play. JCSU finishes Southern Division play with a 6-4 record and has qualified for the 2017 CIAA Softball Tournament. The Golden Bulls will learn their seeding following Sunday’s CIAA play.
JCSU is scheduled to complete the regular season on Sunday, April 23 with a nonconference home doubleheader against St. Andrews. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Biddleville Park in Charlotte.
