JCSU to Host Cheerleading and Mascot Tryouts

CHARLOTTE, NC (July 13, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University Cheerleading team, known as the Luv-A-Bulls will hold an interest meeting on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Family Dollar Room on the campus of JCSU. All interested in trying out for the 2018-19 squad should plan to attend the initial meeting and present themselves in business attire.

Tryouts for the fall of 2018 will be held August 14-16 in the dance studio of the Irwin Belk Complex and will allow potential candidates the opportunity to join one of the premier spirit programs in the CIAA. Tryouts will be held from 6:00-8:30 p.m. each evening. Auditions for those interested in serving as JCSU’s mascot, Smitty, will also be conducted during these times.

Potential candidates will have a chance to be a part of one of the most visible groups on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University and in the Charlotte, N.C. community.

Full-time JCSU students in good standing and incoming freshmen will have the opportunity to become a part of the "Ambassadors of Spirit."

Applicants must provide the following:

Student must possess a minimum 2.3 GPA,

Completed Cheerleading Packet to be turned in at the interest meeting,

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRY-OUT WITHOUT THE FOLLOWING FORMS:

Three (3) letters of recommendation (all newcomers), One (1) letter of recommendation (Returnees), and Student ID card or Acceptance letter (incoming freshman).

Candidates should have the following skills requirements: Make up one original chant, Ability to execute cheers, jumps, and dance, Tumbling (recommended, not required), and Enthusiasm and Spirit.

Proper attire is required each day for every tryout participant

Females: Sports Bra (black), T-shirt (white), Shorts (navy or black), Hair all down (nicely done) and out of your face, No hair extensions , Performance style make-up, and White Sneakers (cheerleading shoes preferred).

Males: T-Shirt (white), Shorts (navy or black), and Sneakers.

Those chosen will perform at a number of events, including all home Golden Bulls football and select away games, basketball games, pep rallies, community activities, and other special events.
