BOWIE, Md. (April 20, 2017) – Johnson C. Smith University junior women’s tennis player Amirah Burnett has earned All-CIAA honors the league announced Monday evening as part of the awards ceremony at the 2017 CIAA Women’s Tennis Championship hosted by Bowie State University.
Burnett, from Baltimore, Md., completed the regular season with a 9-3 singles record in CIAA play. She was 1-2 while playing in the No. 6 slot and returned an 8-1 record while playing at No. 5. Over the course of the season, she has a team-best 9-7 overall record.
She also put together a five-match winning streak through the middle portion of league play and currently rides a three-match win streak heading into today’s CIAA Tournament match with Winston-Salem State. She won both her matches in straight sets this season against her WSSU opponent.
In doubles play, she returned a 4-6 mark in CIAA play.
She teamed with Kaylin Roman (Atlanta, Ga.) for a 4-5 mark at No. 2 and was 0-1 at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Alisa Stevenson (Fayetteville, N.C.).
