Livingstone College Finishes Perfect Season with 2018 CIAA Golf Championship Title

New Kent, VA – On Friday, April 201, 2018, Livingstone College was named the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Champion after posting a two-round score of 635 (+59) at The Club at Viniterra course in New Kent, Virginia. The championship crown is the team's 8th title in school history and first since 2015.

The Blue Bears kept a steady pace, marking a 317 in Round 1 and only tacking on one extra stroke for a total of 318 in the second and final round. Livingstone, who also won the CIAA’s Northern & Southern Division Tournaments in the regular season, led Runner-Up Virginia Union University by 11 strokes. The Panthers totaled 646 strokes (+70) while Saint Augustine’s University followed with a score of 671 (+95).

Isaiah Shaw of Fayetteville State University was crowned Low Medalist of the championship event. His two-day score of 153 was 9 strokes above par, earning a No. 2 CIAA golf season ranking with his 75.67 strokes/round average. Shaw held off VUU's Robel Woldagabriel, who also marked 153 strokes in the tournament, in a sudden death tiebreaker for the Low Medalist award.

The complete CIAA golf season was highlighted by the All-CIAA team, led by Saint Augustine's freshman, Sam Cudjoe. Cudjoe won low medalist at the Southern Division Tournament while earning a third place finish at the Northern Division Tournament. He rounded out the CIAA Championship at No. 6 (76-80, +12) for a season average of 74.8 strokes per round.

Cudjoe's coach, Julius Wells, was named 2018 CIAA Golf Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference and it's Men's Golf Coaches Association. Coach Wells turned the team around from last year's 8th place finish. The Falcons entered the Golf Championship at No. 5 and advanced to a 3rd place finish.

The CIAA Women's Softball and Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field are up next on the conference schedule.
