LTSS to host Stewardship Symposium

HICKORY, NC – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary will welcome the Rev. Dr. Marty E. Stevens to its campus in Columbia, South Carolina, for an event titled Navigating Stewardship: Setting Sail on a Mission, Friday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

During the event, Stevens will lead attendees in expanding understanding of biblical stewardship and identifying barriers to healthy stewardship. She will help participants develop a year-round stewardship plan to support and enrich the congregational mission. Opportunity will be given to share stewardship ideas and learn from each other.

Stevens is an alumna of LTSS, and earned a doctorate degree in biblical studies from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Recently, she retired from United Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as associate professor of biblical studies and registrar. Stevens has served the Church extensively in a variety of roles including pastor, teacher, scholar, and administrator. In 2012, Stevens published her third and most recent book, “Leadership Roles in the Old Testament: King, Prophet, Priest, Sage.” Her other two novels include, “Temples, Tithes, and Taxes: The Temple and the Economic Life of Ancient Israel,” and “Theological Themes of the Old Testament: Creation, Covenant, Cultus, and Character.”

This event is hosted by LTSS in conjunction with the Region 9 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Council for Stewardship Education. Registration is required and must be received by Monday, Jan. 21. Lunch will be provided for all guests.
