Registration open for Lenoir Rhyne’s youth summer music program
HICKORY, N.C. – Registration is open for Lenoir-Rhyne University’s sixth annual Summer Youth Music Band Camp. The camp provides middle school and high school students an opportunity to enhance their musical talents through instruction by professional clinicians. This year’s camp is scheduled from Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13 in the Mauney Music Building, located on the campus of LR. Instruction is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with supervised early drop-off in the morning, beginning at 8 a.m., and afternoon recreational time until 5:30 p.m.
“The band camp at Lenoir-Rhyne continues to expand in popularity every year,” said Christopher Nigrelli, D.M.A., professor of music at LR and camp director. “The purpose of the camp is to help students continue to develop their skills as young musicians in a fun, interactive learning environment.”
As an example of the excellent instruction students receive, the high school students will participate in a band led by Col. Jeffrey Warner, retired after a career leading bands in the United States Air Force. The middle school band will be led by Andrew Blair, band director at Harris Road Middle School in Cabarrus County and the writer and arranger for the Spirit of LR marching band.
This year’s camp adds a residential camper option. Campers will arrive on the evening of Sunday, July 8 and be housed on campus with oversight by public school teachers. Registration for the overnight option includes all meals for the duration of the camp, supervised evening activities, as well as all the day camp benefits, for $415 for the full week.
Tuition for the day camp is $186 for the week, which includes lunch each day and a music camp T-shirt. To register, visit: lr.edu/publicevents email@example.com for more information.
