Statesville's Black Lives Matter Rally Hosted by 22-Year-Old Makayla Edwards

STATESVILLE, NC – Vermont native, now Statesville resident, Makayla Edwards was not much for words, but simply said, “Once I saw what was going on in the news about the police killing of George Floyd, I asked myself, why? Edwards continued saying why people with power continue to do this,” she added.
At first Makayla wanted to go to Atlanta to join the crowds, but then realized there was much to be done now in the city she calls home.
It was then she realized leading a rally in Statesville in front of the Court House during the Council Meeting was more important. After speaking with the Mayor about her plans, he agreed it was alright. However, disappointment hit again when speakers other than those she selected were point out.
The majority of those protesting was “Millennials” not understanding why “We all can’t get along,” their call was, “No Justice, No peace,” “Black Lives matter.”
