The Queen City Battle of the Bands Moves to Houston to Launch the National Battle of the Bands

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 19, 2018): Webber Marketing & Consulting, LLC, in partnership with the Harris County Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA), is proud to announce Houston, Texas as the new host city for the annual Queen City Battle of the Bands (QCBOB). Along with its new location, the QCBOB will be renamed the National Battle of the Bands and will make its inaugural band showcase at the NRG Stadium on the weekend of August 30, 2019.

“We are excited about our new partnership with the Harris County Houston Sports Authority to host the inaugural National Battle of the Bands,” says Derek Webber, CEO Webber Marketing & Consulting, LLC. “With the support of the city of Houston, this partnership allows us to advance our mission to enhance the exposure of HBCUs and their marching bands, and the role they play in educating aspiring musicians and developing future leaders. It also enables us to increase the growth of scholarships, and expand the awareness of higher learning with music, arts and entertainment.”

Event organizers will not host the QCBOB in Charlotte, North Carolina this year; instead, they will focus on the transition to Houston in order to deliver the best event experience possible for its fans and participating HBCU bands. Although the popular band showcase has a new name and will be hosted in a new location, the rich experience and excitement of witnessing show-stopping performances from some of the country’s top Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) marching bands, is sure to make its way to NRG Stadium in August 2019.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be the host site for the National Battle of the Bands, and what better place than at NRG Stadium. It’s no secret that our community loves to put on big-time events, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to build on the storied battle of the bands tradition right here in Houston," says Chris Massey, Director of Events.

Over the last five years, the event organizers have generated more than $350,000 in scholarships for participating colleges and universities who display their school’s dynamic spirit and music programs during their captivating performances.

In addition to the talent being featured on the field, the event will continue its tradition of hosting a college recruitment fair from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The college recruitment fair is free and open to area students interested in higher education opportunities from 20 of the top HBCUs in the country.
