CHARLOTTE, NC – Four sports moms, two of which have children that have aged out, therefore they say, “With no dog in the fight,” and two with sons actively playing football, manage Team Charlotte Elite.

The organization offers football, basketball, track, baseball and cheer for ages 4-18, with year-round mentoring and leadership, and can boast being the “Home of the National Champions. But, these ladies only manage the football.

The physical aspect of any sport comes mainly from a deep desire to play a particular sport, but the building of ethics to not only enjoy, but build respect for the game, its rules, and other players. While winning is always the ultimate desire, the agony of defeat needs help in achieving and these moms have that covered down to the last letter.

For these four, respect is not an option, and for parents with children under their wings it is appreciated. Regardless of age, race, or the community in which they live, discipline is enforced. They assure proper physicals are done, grades are always improving and not diminishing due to the sport, and ample rest is required. Dietary needs are always met even if they must be assisted by the management team.

Now let’s meet the ladies: Shaneak Charlton is the General Manager, Felicia Byrd is her Personal Assistant, Shannon Johnson handles the books, and Arethea Ferguson is the Treasurer. Their diversity in age helps them evaluate where children should be on an educational level, and it’s not being compromised by the sport.

Felicia, a native of Buffalo, New York, is family oriented, has 3 sons and a daughter, and is a CAN by day. She’s considered the stern custodian.

Shannon, also a CAN by day, has a 14-year old son, and 9 year-old twins. She too hails from Buffalo, New York.

Arethea landed in Charlotte by way of Charleston, S.C. and Detroit, Michigan. She earned her accounting degree from Belmont Abbey College, and not only uses that experience in her day job, but also to assist her husband who founded “Grid Iron.” They both love sports.

Shaneak Charlton, a native of Charleston, VA, is the mom of 3, one of which is her 19 year-old, that aged out of football. By day, she’s a Coordinating Assistant for an employment firm, which makes her more than qualified to lead the team.

Because every child that wants to play a sport cannot afford it, these ladies constantly work to raise funds for equipment, snacks, and travel expenses.
