NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month: Nick Leverett

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football redshirt junior Nick Leverett has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2018 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Leverett garnered two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Lineman of the Week awards in October (8th and 22nd), and was named to the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® on October 11.

The team captain and three-time All-MEAC honoree helped NCCU to a pair of league wins against Howard University and Norfolk State University in October to earn his two conference weekly awards. In a 45-30 victory over the Bison, Leverett helped pave the way to 528 yards of total offense by grading out at 92 percent with five pancake blocks and no sacks allowed. He backed it up in the Eagles next game, grading out at 98 percent with three pancake blocks, no sacks allowed and zero penalties in a 36-6 road win over the Spartans.

Leverett is a three-year graduate with a degree in criminal justice and a 3.37 overall grade point average, a campus leader and an active participant in community service on his way to being selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. He also is a 2018 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

The graduate student is working on a master’s degree in public administration. Leverett is a seven-time Dean’s List honoree and a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. He serves on the NCCU Director of Athletics Captains Council, NCCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and is a U.S. Marines “Battles Won” Symposium honoree.

In the community, Leverett’s numerous volunteer contributions include Habitat for Humanity, Durham Rescue Mission, Ronald McDonald House, Pizza for Homeless, “OneLove” Domestic Violence, Kiss Away Cancer, “Ties of Honor”, Feed-A-Family Thanksgiving, Toiletry Drive, Real Talk, Back-Pack Drive and FPG Bilingue Elementary School.
