CHARLOTTE, NC – Since June 2017, Charlotte’s west-side has experienced a sigh-of-relief when seeking license plates titles and title information, as well as a decreased waiting line. A relief that came with the opening of the DMV License Plate Agency located at 3250-G, Wilkinson Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208, contracted to Grier-Perkins LLC, where Wanda Perkins is CEO.

The last contract awarded by the State of North Carolina in 2017, this was slated to be the replacement for Brookshire's title and registration services, however, during the transition some traditional customers drifted to either Huntersville or Independence Boulevard for service.

Perkins, a native Charlottean, felt it was time to do something different. She saw a need on the west-side to not only offer excellent service, but to provide something more convenient to the community, but more importantly, to offer jobs to area residents. According to Perkins, the year-long process was worth it.

Many customers have said, “I appreciate having this close.”

Finding a location that met the state’s specifications and approval, negotiating a lease, hiring an architect and contractor, purchasing furnishings, lighting and equipment needed beyond the scope provided by the state, was all a timely task. However, the most important task was finding the right staff.

Perkins handles HR, deals with Raleigh on major situations and payroll, and brought her son, Brian on as manager. With his background and skill-set, she doesn’t worry about the business.

The office operates with 6 agents and one title specialist. All employees must be trained on state systems, become notary’s (class cost covered), and pass a background check.

The public can use the notary service with or without obtaining a license plate. When time permits, agents assist customers by assuring they have the proper paperwork, and offering advice on where to find needed documents. For them, “It’s all about the customers.”

Brian and Wanda
Grier-Perkins LLC, CEO Wanda Grier Perkins graduated from West Mecklenburg, and received her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Learning from UNC-Charlotte. Her career path includes insurance sales with Allstate and New York Life, employment with Wachovia and Signa Health Care. In addition, she has earned series 6, 7, 63, 26, and 24 Security Exchange Licenses, and has served with her current employer for 20 years.

Manager, Brian Perkins runs the office, has established an outstanding relationship with Raleigh, works with contractors, and most days is on-site 10-12 hours.

Brian received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, with a minor in Political Science from Winston-Salem State University in 2007.

The entire Perkins family is committed to offering better service and a better place to do business, which is evident as Attorney Bruce Perkins, father to Brain and husband of Wanda, often helps by serving as the weekly janitor.

In less than a year, according to Google, the Wilkinson Boulevard DMV has garnered a 3.75 rating, where the scale is 1-5. “It’s all about the customer,” said CEO Wanda Perkins.
